Father’s Love

Only now do we understand
what he was
trying to teach us
How could love be
so hard to do?
Patiently impatient
and humbly so grand
He will be missed
timelessly, musingly
He became us
because he was our
inevitability
We sought other venues
We took on other interests
He loved us still
Through his love,
we loved our boys
and art became raising
them in his shadow
He fought with a selflessness
no one could imagine
He always did
His casket never held him
he was far above the fray
We had tears over smiles
